Job summary

Foresters Financial is seeking a Senior Underwriter in the United States. The role involves evaluating health, financial and lifestyle factors to determine appropriate rate classes while coordinating with New Business, Actuarial, Claims, and Distribution.

Expected to lead underwriting decisions within approved limits and manage complex cases. The position requires 5+ years of underwriting experience, professional designations (AALU, pursuing FALU/FLMI), and strong knowledge of life insurance

Qualifications

• 5+ years underwriting experience
• AALU designation achieved; FALU/FLMI in progress
• Strong medical and financial underwriting knowledge
• Experience with simplified issue and final expense products
• Knowledge of underwriting theory, principles, methods, systems and standards
• Good consultation and communication skills to request information
• Knowledge of US underwriting regulations
• Understanding Foresters products and policy provisions

Responsibilities

• Review insurance files for new business, reinstatements and changes
• Communicate underwriting decisions to producers
• Balance investigative costs and determine needed information
• Order medical tests and coordinate assessments
• Research sources and access confidential information via MIB
• Document files in underwriting systems
• Complete a full underwriting assessment
• Refer files for reinsurance as needed
• Prepare advisory letters to members and producers
• Contribute to underwriting policy updates and training
• Collaborate with Medical Director on complex cases
• Perform other duties as assigned
