Job summary

Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. seeks a Senior Java Integration Engineer to build Java APIs and modern integrations, replacing legacy mainframe systems.

You will mentor engineers and collaborate with business partners in a mostly remote setting with occasional on-site planning events. You’ll design, develop, and maintain APIs and ESB/iPaaS integrations, driving best practices and reliability across the Producer Management team within the DO ART.

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing, developing, and supporting enterprise Java applications with integration work.
• Experience building Java microservices on AWS or similar cloud platforms.
• Experience integrating modern apps with legacy systems (mainframe/enterprise back-end).
• Demonstrated senior‑level technical leadership: strong communicator and mentor to engineers.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving with root-cause focus.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and improve system reliability and performance.
• High learning agility and collaborative, team‑first mindset.
• Curious mindset evaluating new technologies and approaches.
• Willingness to travel onsite for periodic collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of Java-based applications and services for Producer Management.
• Design and implement integration solutions using MuleSoft, Camel, Kafka, MQ, or REST APIs to connect legacy and downstream systems.
• Establish and promote software engineering best practices, including CI/CD and automated testing.
• Act as a senior technical resource and mentor to less experienced engineers.
• Partner with ART leadership and business partners to translate requirements into tech solutions.
• Critically evaluate root causes and proactively recommend improvements.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation supporting shared-service systems.
