Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Senior Inpatient Facility Certified Medical Coder to deliver ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for hospital inpatient services in a remote setting. You will ensure accurate DRG assignments, adhere to official coding guidelines, and support providers with documentation feedback.

This role requires 3+ years inpatient coding, trauma center experience, and professional AHIMA/AAPC credentials.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED (or higher).
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC credentials renewed annually.
• 3+ years of Acute Care inpatient medical coding experience in hospital/facility settings.
• 2+ years in Level 2+ trauma centers or teaching hospitals with complex procedures.
• 2+ years of ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG coding experience.
• Ability to pass pre-employment requirements including background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Identify ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient services and assess DRG impact.
• Abstract data elements during chart review as needed.
• Maintain coding accuracy per AHIMA and/or AAPC guidelines.
• Meet performance standards for coding quality and productivity.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Stay current with coding knowledge through QM/Coding leadership communications.
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
• Maintain records of charts coded, held, or missing.
