Job summary

Maximus is seeking a PART TIME Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support our IRS client in a remote capacity. The role requires an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) and a strong background in COBOL, DB2, and related technologies.

Responsibilities include creating and maintaining IBM COBOL programs, updating technical documentation, performing unit tests, and coordinating with managers and testers to ensure compliant changes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 5+ years of experience.
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) is required.
• 5+ years of IBM COBOL programming experience.
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities.
• Experience with CICS.
• Strong communication and client-support skills.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Preferred: IRS processing systems; SQL, JCL, Batch processing.

Responsibilities

• Create, update, unit test, and maintain IBM COBOL programs.
• Update documentation such as FSPs/PRPs and Visio diagrams as needed.
• Track requirements and execute unit test cases.
• Review documentation such as UWRs, IRMs, ICDs, COH.
• Rewrite programs using workflow charts and symbolic logic.
• Revise or expand existing programs to improve efficiency or meet new requirements.
• Consult with management, engineering, and technical staff to clarify intent and suggest changes.
• Perform systems analysis and programming tasks to maintain computer systems software.
• Document program development and revisions with comments in code.
• Prepare workflow charts and diagrams and convert them into code.
• Assist testers in development, SAT and FIT environments.
