Job summary

Maximus is seeking a part-time Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support our IRS client. This is a remote role requiring an active Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI). You will design, code, test, and document COBOL applications, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and ensure compliance with change controls.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in IBM COBOL, DB2, CICS, SQL, JCL, and batch processing, plus strong communication and problem-solving skills. IRS experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 5+ years of professional experience.
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required.
• 5+ years in IBM COBOL programming.
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities, CICS.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; client support history.
• Experience with SQL, JCL, and Batch processing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create, update, unit test, and maintain IBM COBOL programs.
• Update FSPs/PRPs and Visio diagrams as needed.
• Track requirements and execute unit test cases.
• Review documentation such as UWRs, IRMs, ICDs, COH.
• Rewrite programs using workflow charts and tax knowledge.
• Revise or expand existing programs for efficiency and new requirements.
• Consult with managers, engineering, and technical staff to clarify intent.
• Perform systems analysis and maintain computer systems software.
• Document program development and revisions with comments.
• Prepare workflow charts and convert to coded instructions.
• Assist testers in SAT and FIT environments.
