Job summary

Maximus seeks a PART TIME Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support our IRS client. This remote role requires an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) and focuses on COBOL programming, system changes, and documentation.

Responsibilities include developing/maintaining COBOL programs, updating specs and diagrams, and coordinating with managers and testers to ensure compliant, efficient processing in a tax environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• At least five years of relevant IBM COBOL programming experience.
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required.
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities.
• Experience with CICS.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven client support experience.
• Ability to interface with all levels of management.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Create, update, unit test, and maintain IBM COBOL programs.
• Update documentation such as FSPs/PRPs and Visio diagrams as needed.
• Track requirements and create/execute unit test cases.
• Review and comment on documentation (UWR, IRM, ICD, COH).
• Rewrite programs using diagrams and logical thinking.
• Revise, repair, or expand existing programs for efficiency and new requirements.
• Consult with stakeholders to clarify program intent and changes.
• Perform systems analysis and programming tasks for system software control.
• Document program development and revisions with comments in code.
• Prepare workflow charts and translate into code.
• Assist testers in development, SAT and FIT environments.
