Job summary

PeaceHealth is seeking a Coder III to join the Hospital Coding team in a full-time, day shift. The role requires advanced coding expertise for inpatient and outpatient records with 5+ years of experience and proficiency in ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding.

Qualifications

• Completion of a college-based or AAPC/AHIMA approved coding education program.
• Minimum 5 years direct inpatient acute care hospital coding and abstracting experience.
• Proficient in ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems.
• Knowledge of acute care reimbursement requirements and regulatory guidelines.
• Relevant certifications such as RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CPC/CPC-H/CPC-Hospital or CPC-Outpatient.

Responsibilities

• Code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 conventions for reimbursement and compliance.
• Review medical records to ensure specificity and appropriate/optimal hospital charges.
• Abstract information from records and identify errors for correction.
• Assist in internal coding reviews and mentor coding caregivers as needed.
• Support testing and implementation of coding software and EMR updates as SME.
• Provide corrections for external reporting to state health departments or regulators.
