Job summary

RMS Energy Co, LLC seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to design and analyze high-voltage substation power systems across the United States. You will create drawing packages, perform modeling, and provide direct field support for installations and commissioning.

The role requires designing switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and protective relays, with hands-on arc flash and short-circuit studies. You will travel to sites, develop relay settings, and ensure safe operation while communicating

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or closely related field.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in electrical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems and substation equipment.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and power system modeling software (e.g., SKM Power Tools, ETAP, Easy Power).
• Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• NETA II, III, or IV certification preferred.
• EIT or PE license preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external teams.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers.

Responsibilities

• Provide electrical power system design and analysis for substation equipment.
• Create specifications for switchgear, transformers, MCCs, breakers, etc.
• Perform arc flash studies, short-circuit calculations, coordination analysis.
• Design installation packages and drawings for substation upgrades and relay replacements.
• Develop relay settings for electromechanical and digital relays.
• Design control circuits for breakers and transformers.
• Analyze power quality and event data to propose solutions.
• Review customer power systems and suggest upgrades.
• Travel to job sites to collect field data and support installations/commissioning.
• Follow electrical safety procedures on all tasks.
