Job summary

Great Minds is seeking a Lead Policy Analyst to report to the Director of Policy and act as the team’s primary subject matter expert. You will track and interpret the federal, state, and local policy landscape to ensure the organization can engage and influence effectively.

The role requires initiative, independent judgment, and a demonstrated ability to translate findings into actionable strategies for policymakers, state agencies, and K–12 stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in K–12 policy, applied research, or related field.
• Ability to independently drive research projects with strong judgment.
• Sophisticated mix of quantitative and qualitative methods.
• Ability to balance priorities and deadlines with stakeholders.
• Deep familiarity with state/local policy development and tracking.
• Experience turning complex policy landscapes into strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the team’s primary analytical resource for K–12 policy trends across federal, state, and local levels.
• Own tracking and monitoring of state and local legislation with clear context and implications.
• Lead projects examining how mandates shape policy action at various levels.
• Translate regional trend analysis into recommendations for policy engagement and investments.
• Equip internal stakeholders with briefings, frameworks, and actionable guidance.
• Represent Great Minds externally at policy conferences and sector events.
