Job summary

The Public Library of Science (PLOS) is seeking a Senior Editor, Publication Ethics to investigate and resolve ethics cases across PLOS journals and provide ethics support to journal teams. You will work in a remote-capable team handling a broad range of integrity issues, from image/data integrity to authorship disputes, across the publication lifecycle.

You will contribute to team initiatives, training, and policy development, and communicate effectively with editors, authors, and stakeholders

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD (or equivalent) in a scientific discipline.
• Experience in an editorial or publication ethics role in STM publishing.
• First-hand experience resolving publication ethics cases.
• A demonstrated aptitude for critically evaluating scientific articles or publication ethics issues.

Responsibilities

• Resolve publication ethics cases efficiently and in line with PLOS standards and COPE guidance.
• Provide timely support for others’ publication ethics case work and handle escalations.
• Contribute to team-level and cross-functional initiatives addressing ethics and integrity issues.
• Support journal staff editors in resolving ethics issues during manuscript handling, peer review, or post-publication.
• Communicate rapidly and effectively about ethics cases with stakeholders including editors, authors, and other teams.
• Participate in internal discussions on publication ethics and research integrity.
• Attend COPE Forums within working hours to stay current on industry issues.
• Assist with recruitment and onboarding for vacant team positions and train staff on ethics case management.
