Job summary

The American Alpine Journal is seeking a Senior Editor on a remote, part-time contract to support the Editor-in-Chief in planning, editing, and producing the 2027 edition, as well as associated channels.

Ideal candidates have extensive climbing knowledge and a track record in climbing journalism, with strong editing, fact-checking, and layout skills, and a passion for alpinism and mountain exploration.

Qualifications

• Extensive climbing experience and knowledge.
• Proven track record editing climbing news or related specialty journalism.
• Ability to edit longer-form articles for publication.
• Experience planning and layout in print publications with an art director.

Responsibilities

• Report, edit, and fact-check expedition reports.
• Edit longer articles with climber-writers and the Editor-in-Chief.
• Research for the AAJ, Cutting Edge podcast, and other channels.
• Collect and prepare photos and captions for publication.
• Upload and edit online stories.
• Take on additional duties as assigned by the Editor-in-Chief.
