Otsuka America Pharmaceutical Inc. is seeking a Senior Director, Data and AI Engineering to define the data and AI strategy across the R&D value chain, delivering scalable and compliant data and Gen AI foundations for drug development and clinical trials.

The role leads a high-performing team of data engineers and AI professionals, partners with IT and external collaborators, and champions responsible AI, governance, and scalable MLOps across the organization.

Qualifications

• Expertise in real-world data assets and using them to generate scientific evidence and guide operational effectiveness.
• Deep expertise across data engineering, AI/ML, Gen AI and experience in architecting and delivering AI/ML use cases.
• Strong team leadership, internal and cross-functional collaboration, project management skills with a focus on delivering impactful initiatives.
• 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in data engineering, AI/ML, and Gen AI with at least 5 years in senior technical leadership or management roles.
• Strong experience in architecting, building and maintaining large-scale data and AI solutions in a scientific, regulated, or research-heavy environment.
• Strong experience in pharma/biotech or life sciences, particularly within R&D, and understanding of AI in Pharma.
• Proven track record of implementing and deploying Gen AI and LLMs in production environments.
• Creative problem solving using responsible use of technology.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the strategic vision and roadmap for data engineering, AI, and Gen AI in R&D.
• Lead design, development, and deployment of scalable data engineering for AI applications across R&D.
• Oversee AI/Gen AI use cases from ideation to production deployment and lifecycle management.
• Champion engineering best practices, governance, and observability for AI across the portfolio.
• Architect and scale MLOps to support end-to-end model lifecycles.
• Collaborate with IT and platform teams to translate scientific challenges into data/AI projects.
• Communicate strategy and progress to stakeholders and leadership.
