Job summary

Branch, a remote-first fintech company with employees across the United States, seeks a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to own and optimize production database systems (MySQL/CloudSQL on GCP, plus Google Cloud Spanner) ensuring performance, availability, and security.

You will collaborate with product and engineering teams, implement automated data pipelines and monitoring, manage backups and DR targets, and drive incident response, RCA, and schema changes from design to deployment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years managing MySQL/CloudSQL at scale.
• Expert in SQL and MySQL schema design.
• Deep knowledge of MySQL internals.
• Strong replication, tuning, and optimization with minimal downtime.
• Experience with Google Cloud Spanner at scale and query optimization.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Bonuses: payments experience, GCP tools, Infrastructure as Code, Redis, multi-region deployments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and own core database systems for performance, availability, and security.
• Communicate critical data changes to the data warehousing team.
• Collaborate with engineering and data teams on schema changes from design to deployment.
• Build and maintain automated data pipelines and production tests with SRE/DevOps.
• Proactively detect weak areas and automate monitoring and production alerting.
• Document and automate recurring processes.
• Evaluate new database features to meet scalability and uptime requirements.
• Own backup and recovery, and establish disaster recovery targets.
• Support, debug, and perform RCA on production DB issues and incident response.
