Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support USSOCOM POTFF, identifying innovative solutions to improve the well-being of SOF personnel and families. You will consult with units and staff to capture POTFF data and opportunities for impactful analytics.

The role requires a strong background in statistics, ML, and data visualization, plus experience with large datasets and government programs. Security clearance and citizenship are required.

Qualifications

• BS, MS (preferred), or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Machine Learning or a related field.
• 7+ years of relevant professional experience in data analysis/science with heavy emphasis on data-driven decision making.
• Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Trees, etc.
• Experience with data science toolkits; excellence in multiple of these is highly desirable.
• Experience with data visualization tools.
• Advanced applied statistics skills (distributions, testing, regression).
• Strong SQL and relational database skills.
• Experience with large data sets and distributed or cloud computing tools a plus.
• Ability to work independently or in a team; strong communication skills.
• Passion for empirical research and data-driven insights.
• Leadership in prioritizing projects and evaluating data analysis solutions.
• Experience with requirements documentation and working with business users.
• Experience with solution/vendor evaluation and ROI assessment.
• Experience with government-sponsored health care programs is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Interpret results using a range of techniques from data aggregation to advanced data mining.
• Select features and refine classifiers using modern machine learning methods.
• Act as SME in data and analytics for peers and stakeholders.
• Identify suitable decision technologies (optimization, simulation, regression, trees, neural networks, clustering, etc.).
• Use statistics to forecast trends and maintain reliable predictions.
• Expand MAXIMUS data collection for robust analytics systems.
• Develop automated anomaly detection and monitor model performance.
• Lead project management and team communication for timely execution.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies relevant to MAXIMUS initiatives.
• Drive execution in other MAXIMUS strategic areas.
