Job summary

Nextech is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join a focused Data Services team supporting mission-critical healthcare applications, real-time workflows, and regulatory reporting. Build the enterprise lakehouse, curate semantic layers for AI-driven analytics, and collaborate with Product Engineering and FP&A to align data with roadmaps.

In the first year, drive technical debt reduction, mentor junior engineers, and strengthen data quality.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of production experience in data engineering.
• Advanced proficiency with Python and PySpark in production environments.
• Hands-on production experience with Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, or comparable modern data platforms.
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and operating lakehouse architectures using Delta Lake, Parquet, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience designing AI-ready schemas, semantic layers, or metadata structures with downstream AI or ML query patterns in mind.
• Experience with agentic or automation-driven data quality workflows, such as AI-assisted reconciliation.
• Demonstrated ability to partner with product, analytics, finance, or business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure cloud concepts, including Azure SQL and hybrid cloud models.
• Willingness to develop deeper operational expertise in Azure SQL and SQL Server.
• Mentoring junior or mid-level engineers on technical standards and patterns.

Responsibilities

• Design and build data pipelines and lakehouse solutions using Databricks and PySpark.
• Design AI-ready schemas, semantic layers, and metadata structures for reliable AI queries.
• Build automated validation processes for agent-generated queries.
• Pilot agentic automation for data quality and reconciliation workflows with rollback plans.
• Curate and maintain semantic layer grounding AI agents.
• Catalog and steward enterprise data assets for analytics, FP&A, and product engineering needs.
• Partner with Product Engineering, FP&A, and other stakeholders to identify data requirements.
• Troubleshoot performance issues in SQL Server and Azure SQL environments.
• Mentor junior engineers on data engineering best practices and standards.
• Contribute to data protection, security, and HIPAA compliance reviews when relevant.
