Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead end-to-end clinical data exchange implementations with providers, health systems, and HIEs. The role focuses on data integration, standards compliance, and operational excellence across enterprise healthcare initiatives.

You will work remotely within the United States, collaborating with UHC and OptumCare leadership to onboard strategic data sources, build scalable solutions, and deliver dashboards and metrics for progress and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of equivalent software development / data engineering experience.
• 5+ years of healthcare data, clinical data exchange, business analysis, or technical implementation leadership experience.
• 3+ years of experience with SQL, data analysis, data integrations, and file transfer technologies within an SDLC framework.
• 3+ years of knowledge of healthcare operations, clinical data standards, quality reporting (HEDIS®, CMS Stars), HIPAA, and PHI compliance regulations.
• 2+ years of experience leveraging AI-powered tools and automation solutions to improve productivity, analysis, documentation, and decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end clinical data exchange implementations with providers, health systems, vendors, laboratories, and HIEs.
• Manage multiple concurrent implementations through intake, discovery, development, testing, QA, deployment, and production support.
• Partner with UHC and OptumCare leadership to identify, prioritize, and onboard strategic clinical data sources.
• Translate business needs into scalable technical solutions across cross-functional teams.
• Ensure data submissions comply with quality, regulatory, and audit requirements (HEDIS, CMS Stars, PSV).
• Leverage AI tools to streamline workflows and drive continuous improvement.
• Develop dashboards, scorecards, and metrics to monitor progress and data quality.
• Provide mentoring and knowledge sharing to analysts and teams.
• Support incident and problem management for data acquisition issues.
