Job summary

Canal & River Trust is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer (Design & Development) to lead design and development of repairs on historic assets within the UK canal network. You will prepare specifications, briefing documents for in-house teams and external contractors while managing risk and ensuring value.

The role offers remote working with the need to attend hub spaces and travel across the regional network. London & SE focus with a permanent or fixed-term arrangement.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer or equivalent
• Degree, HND, or equivalent in Civil Engineering
• Proven experience inspecting and delivering engineering activities
• Proven experience assessing infrastructure risk
• Knowledge of historic infrastructure in water environments
• Ability to produce written reports and present technical information clearly
• Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements and practical application

Responsibilities

• Investigate and develop clear design solutions balancing best value, user needs and whole life costs
• Prepare repair specifications, works packages and drawings using standard or bespoke solutions
• Collaborate with internal teams, contractors and stakeholders for successful delivery
• Undertake site inspections to determine suitable engineering solutions and ensure works meet specs
• Contribute to Design Guidance, Standards and Specifications
• Provide temporary works designs to support in-house teams
