Job summary

Canal & River Trust is seeking an Assistant Engineer (Civil Engineering Technician) to join the Asset Management team. The role focuses on inspecting, maintaining, renewing and protecting engineering infrastructure across the West Midlands, with support to the engineering team and wider business.

The role requires engineering knowledge, strong problem-solving, and the ability to work with internal and external teams; occasional travel and remote working with hub attendance are expected.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field or technical qualification.
• Experience with civil engineering inspection and maintenance.
• Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Undertake a wide variety of asset inspections including service and safety, general inspections and principal inspections.
• Collect data to inform asset degradation models.
• Identify defects and prioritise repairs.
• Undertake investigations and monitoring of assets and asset-related defects.
• Provide support to internal teams and stakeholders.
• Engage with customers and external stakeholders to promote the Trust’s work.
