Job summary

Cloudbeds is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Workflow Squad. You will design, build, and operate backend capabilities in PHP and Java across services, APIs, data, and event-driven systems, with occasional frontend work as needed.

You’ll own work end‑to‑end from design through production, balancing delivery with reliability and maintainability. This role emphasizes AI-first development and collaboration across cross-functional teams in a fully remote setting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience delivering production applications.
• Strong proficiency in PHP and/or Java.
• Experience with relational data modeling and distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate customer-facing backend services and product capabilities primarily in PHP and Java, with focused frontend contributions when needed
• Build reliable APIs, data models, integrations, asynchronous processes, and event-driven services using PostgreSQL, Kafka, REST, and gRPC
• Own changes end-to-end across application code, service boundaries, infrastructure, and deployment configuration, from design to production
• Work AI-first, using Claude Code as the starting point and maintain the same code review and production standards
• Improve scalability, resilience, performance, security, and maintainability across distributed systems
• Own observability, automated testing, and on-call production support
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure, Security, and other teams to translate requirements into reliable solutions
• Contribute as a senior IC through architecture decisions, code reviews, and mentoring
