Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build reliable backend services and integrations across GitHub, CI/CD, policy systems, and developer workflows.

You will lead the adoption of a consistent merge path, collaborate with Security, Compliance, Infrastructure, Codeflow, ZTSC, and repository owners, and drive safe rollouts and observable decisions in a high-reliability environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years experience in backend or platform engineering.
• Strong Go or equivalent language background for distributed systems.
• Experience designing APIs, durable state, failure recovery, observability, and safe rollout mechanisms.
• Experience with CI/CD, source-control integrations, developer infrastructure, or other high-consequence control planes.
• Strong security and authorization judgment; understands risk in production gates.
• Evidence of leading a cross-team technical project end-to-end.
• Hands-on AI fluency for AI-assisted engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of Coinbase’s Unified Merge Gate.
• Integrate automated review findings, policy and risk assessments, CI results, and human judgment into one merge decision.
• Build backend services and integrations across GitHub, CI, and policy systems.
• Migrate repositories to the Unified Merge Gate with safe rollouts and observable decisions.
• Collaborate with Security, Compliance, Infrastructure, Codeflow, ZTSC, and repository owners.
• Measure impact on review volume, time-to-merge, and defect escape rates.
