Job summary

Deckers Brands in the United States seeks a Sr. Manager, AI Engineering to lead enterprise AI engineering, owning a platform that provides governed access to foundation models and reusable patterns for retrieval augmented generation, agents, and LLM apps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 8–12 years building production software, data, or ML systems.
• 3–5+ years leading engineering teams in cloud-native environments.
• 3+ years delivering production AI or ML systems, incl. 2+ years with generative AI/LLMs.
• Experience taking gen AI from PoC to governed production with guardrails and monitoring.
• Hands-on with retrieval augmented generation, agents, orchestration, and LLM apps.
• Familiar with foundation model platforms (AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI).
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder influence.

Responsibilities

• Own the enterprise AI platform with governed access to foundation models, unified gateway, model routing, prompt and context mgmt, and cost controls.
• Define reusable AI engineering patterns for RAG, agents, orchestration, and LLM architecture.
• Lead evaluation framework including offline/online testing and release criteria.
• Deliver AI apps into production across customer-facing and internal use cases.
• Manage production quality: latency, availability, cost per interaction, and monitoring.
• Track AI tooling landscape and migrate as models/providers evolve.
• Own AI engineering roadmap and staffing aligned to business priorities.
• Mentor AI engineers, manage external partners, and support cross-functional teams.
• Establish production readiness with guardrails, safety controls, human-in-the-loop, and incident response.
• Implement responsible AI policy with documentation, evidence, monitoring, and audit trails.
• Collaborate with business, digital, data, ML, security, privacy, and infra teams to scope/use cases.
