Job summary

Commerce is building a new team to deliver AI agents for B2B commerce, with a focus on reliability, safety, and user-centric conversational experiences. The Senior Backend Engineer (AI Agent) will design orchestration, sub-agent architecture, and tool integrations, owning rigorous evals and performance metrics.

The role requires 5+ years in backend/API development, experience with LLMs in production, and strong prompt engineering.

Qualifications

5+ years of backend or full-stack software development, with hands-on experience building agentic AI/LLM applications.
Experience with LLMs (Gemini, Anthropic, OpenAI) in production systems.
Strong understanding of prompt engineering, tool/function calling, and agent orchestration patterns.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and iterate on AI agents in Go/Python using an orchestrator/sub-agent architecture.
Own eval-driven development: build and maintain golden datasets, scorers, and regression suites for quality metrics.
Develop and refine prompts, model configurations; version prompts/settings as tested artifacts.
Integrate agents with MCP servers and backend tools, defining safe tool-call contracts and guardrails.
Instrument agents with tracing, metrics, and cost tracking; collaborate with product/design teams.
