Job summary

GameChanger, a remote-first tech company based in New York, seeks a Staff Software Engineer to define and drive the technical strategy for our advertising platform across live sports experiences. You will shape architecture, identify long-term investments, and build advertising systems that are reliable, scalable, and adaptable to new opportunities.

You will lead efforts on video ads, server-side advertising, connected TV, programmatic formats, and collaboration with product, data, and business

Qualifications

8+ years of professional software development experience with leadership on large-scale systems.
Experience designing and evolving distributed, high-scale production systems.
Professional experience architecting and delivering advertising technology systems or integrations with backend focus and video advertising support.
Experience with ad serving, video ad delivery, SSAI/CSAI, VAST, programmatic advertising or header bidding.
Experience leading architecture and technical strategy across multiple engineers/teams.
Strong understanding of API design, distributed systems, reliability, observability, and performance.
Mentoring senior engineers and influencing decisions beyond immediate projects.
Experience with live or streaming video systems is strongly preferred.
Experience with connected TV advertising or server-side ad insertion is preferred.
Experience with Google Ad Manager or similar ad-serving platforms is preferred.
Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, AWS, Redis, and PostgreSQL is preferred.

Responsibilities

Define and drive the technical strategy for our advertising platform, establishing a scalable architecture.
Provide technical leadership for current and future advertising capabilities (video ads, server-side advertising, connected TV, programmatic formats).
Partner with Engineering and Product leadership to identify investments unlocking new capabilities and revenue.
Lead architecture and system design for cross-functional initiatives across advertising, video, backend services, clients, and data systems.
Evaluate architectural options and third-party advertising technologies, communicating tradeoffs clearly.
Improve reliability, observability, scalability, and maintainability of advertising systems and integrations.
Establish patterns that make it easier for teams to build and experiment with advertising experiences.
Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar via design reviews and knowledge sharing.
Build and maintain technical documentation, architectural plans, and long-term technical roadmaps.
Stay current on advertising tech ecosystem changes and advise on relevant technologies.
Occasional on-call rotations with the team.
