Job summary

Workiva is seeking a Security Intern to join the Information Security team and help solve security issues, develop monitoring tools, and support vulnerability testing of web apps. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders, document incidents, and expand our security controls.

The role offers remote/hybrid options and start dates in Spring/Summer. Ideal candidates are enrolled in CS/CE/MIS, with programming basics (Python/Java/SQL/Go/Dart), familiarity with vulnerability tools, AWS/GAE, and

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program in CS/CE/MIS.
• Strong ethical handling of sensitive data.
• Strong written and verbal communication and listening skills.
• Basic programming knowledge: Python, Java, SQL, Go or Dart.
• Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools and/or penetration testing.
• Familiarity with AWS and/or Google App Engine.
• Working knowledge of Linux/Unix.
• Security Engineering: understanding HTTP and web vulnerabilities.
• Security Operations: self-motivation and networking for information gathering.

Responsibilities

• Provide Incident Response support when an actionable incident is confirmed.
• Document, investigate, and report on information security issues and trends.
• Manage and configure tools and devices to expand security monitoring.
• Develop tools to assist with security and compliance tasks.
• Assist with vulnerability testing of web applications to identify weaknesses.
• Research potential security controls to fix vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate with teams to create remediation strategies and timelines.
• Develop queries and visualizations for security and compliance tasks.
• Help solve security issues identified in production applications.
• Analyze security log data from various devices for trends.
