Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC (SSG) is seeking a Software Developer in Test (SDET) for a 100% remote US-based role supporting the Veterans Affairs department.

The ideal candidate has strong programming skills in C#, .Net, Java, or Python, and proven experience in both manual and automated testing, SDLC, and test automation. You will design test plans, write cases, and ensure quality across complex IT systems.

Qualifications

• Must have strong programming skills in C#, .Net, Java, or Python.
• Experience on complex software projects with high-quality deliverables.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Proficient in Agile/Scrum and SDLC.
• Proficient in writing/executing test cases, scripts, plans.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, QTP, LoadRunner).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git, Subversion).
• Understanding of performance testing and tools (JMeter, Gatling).
• Experience with defect tracking (JIRA, Bugzilla).
• Knowledge of database and SQL for validating stored data.
• Experience in testing web applications, APIs, and services.
• Understanding of security testing practices and tools.
• Experience with different types of testing (functional, regression, integration, system, usability, UAT).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; strong communication.
• Ability to mentor junior testers.
• Understand business requirements and translate to test scenarios.
• Experience with test management tools.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
• Ability to conduct test reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Knowledge of risk-based, exploratory, and context-driven testing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test procedures to ensure systems meet standards and end-user requirements.
• Develop test plans, test schedule, and approach.
• Write test cases and scripts and identify data for test scenarios.
• Conduct walkthroughs on test cases/scripts with stakeholders.
• Perform and lead tests to ensure defect-free operation.
• Document and communicate test results.
• Support analysis of test results and resolution of issues.
• Create daily test metrics and reporting.
• Mentor and guide junior testers.
• Provide technical solutions to difficult problems within projects.
