Job summary

Scion Staffing, Inc. has been engaged to conduct a search for a Revenue Cycle Specialist for a growing behavioral healthcare organization. This is a fully remote, 6+ week contract with an ASAP start, paying 24/hour.

Key tasks include AR cleanup, insurance billing, collections and cash posting, with focus on Illinois Medicaid/Medicaid MCOs, Medicare, and commercial plans. 2+ years in psychiatric/behavioral health revenue cycle is required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of revenue cycle experience within psychiatry/behavioral health.
• 2+ years of experience working with Illinois government insurance, particularly Illinois Medicaid/Medicaid MCO plans.
• Strong experience with medical billing, insurance collections, accounts receivable, and cash posting.

Responsibilities

• Work through a backlog of unpaid insurance claims and AR.
• Review and clean up approximately 45,000 billing line items.
• Research unpaid claims and determine next steps (rebilling, follow-up, adjustment, or write-off).
• Perform cash posting and ensure payments are correctly applied.
• Review aging AR, including 120+ days.

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Revenue Cycle Specialist on behalf of our client, a growing behavioral healthcare organization. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced behavioral health revenue cycle professionals to step into a high-impact project focused on accounts receivable cleanup, insurance billing, collections, and cash posting. This is a fully remote, 6+ week contract opportunity with an ASAP start.

Pay: $24/hour

Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 9:00 AM–5:00 PM CST, with some flexibility

What You’ll Be Doing

• Work through a significant backlog of unpaid insurance claims and outstanding accounts receivable.
• Review and clean up approximately 45,000 billing line items across inpatient hospital, SMUF, and SNF services.
• Research unpaid claims and determine appropriate next steps, including rebilling, follow-up, adjustment, or write-off.
• Perform cash posting and ensure payments are accurately applied to the appropriate accounts and insurance buckets.
• Review aging accounts, including a substantial volume of AR aged 120+ days.
• Work primarily with Illinois Medicaid and Medicaid MCO plans, along with Medicare, DSNP, and commercial insurance.
• Analyze claim statuses, payment history, balances, and discrepancies to identify billing issues.
• Assist with denial analysis and resolution based on experience and project needs.
• Clean up account records to distinguish payer balances and ensure information is accurately categorized.
• Work from Excel-based worklists while completing billing and account activity within the organization’s revenue cycle system.
• Partner with the Director of Revenue Cycle Management while independently working through assigned accounts.

What You’ll Bring

• 2+ years of revenue cycle experience specifically within psychiatry/behavioral health.
• 2+ years of experience working with Illinois government insurance, particularly Illinois Medicaid and Medicaid MCO plans.
• Strong experience with medical billing, insurance collections, accounts receivable, and cash posting.
• Familiarity with Medicare, DSNP, and commercial insurance plans.
• Experience researching unpaid claims, rebilling, resolving discrepancies, and determining appropriate account disposition.
• Strong denial analysis and insurance follow-up skills.
• Experience with Mahler is a significant plus.
