Job summary

First American is seeking a detail-oriented Title Examiner to join our Sacramento-area team. You will examine titles, abstract records, and identify issues impacting ownership and insurability while coordinating with underwriting guidelines.

Responsibilities include preparing title commitments, testing title tools, and providing concrete feedback to technology partners. A High School diploma and 2+ years of multistate experience are required, with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Multistate title examination experience required.
• 2+ years of title examination experience.
• State license(s) if required.
• Detail and quality orientation.
• Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform title examinations and review chains of title for residential orders.
• Abstract and analyze records—including mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, vital statistics, and plat and map books—to determine ownership, identify legal restrictions, verify legal descriptions, and assess record completeness.
• Resolve title issues involving missing, incomplete, inaccurate, or contradictory information.
• Prepare initial title commitment documentation using established procedures and guidelines.
• Test title-related tools, platforms, and applications across a variety of workflows and scenarios.
• Compare system results with examiner judgment and source records; identify errors, omissions, inconsistencies, and opportunities to improve results.
• Provide specific, actionable feedback to technology development teams, including examples of expected results and relevant examining context.
• Help define and refine test scenarios and workflows based on real-world title examination practices.
• Review reports and other system-generated documentation for accuracy and usability.
• Provide underwriting interpretation within established guidelines, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
