Job summary

Cognitive Medical Systems, Inc. is seeking a Release Engineer to own the operational reliability and release coordination for the CMS DDPS and PRS production environment. This role bridges engineering and operations to ensure safe releases and real-time visibility.

The position is remote in the United States with state restrictions. You will monitor systems with AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, New Relic, and Datadog, automate remediation, and drive resilience and disaster recovery readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; 4+ years in SRE, DevOps, or release management on production federal systems.
• Hands-on experience with AWS CloudWatch, Splunk and incident management tools.
• Experience with New Relic and Datadog for application performance monitoring.
• Experience coordinating production releases, cutovers, and rollback execution on mission-critical systems.
• Familiarity with Linux environments and Bash scripting; ability to pass background checks.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and execute all production releases: validate deployment readiness, support cutovers, validate post-implementation results, and coordinate rollbacks.
• Maintain real-time monitoring and observability across program systems using standard tools; ensure metrics and health are visible to stakeholders.
• Drive reliability improvements: automate remediation, reduce manual tasks, and improve MTTR.
• Maintain alerting and on-call runbooks; coordinate incident response with cybersecurity and DevSecOps leadership.
• Support disaster recovery readiness: plan DR tests, failover/failback exercises, and validate RTO/RPO with cloud architecture.
• Manage release documentation and communications: maintain schedules and validation reports; coordinate stakeholder communications.
• Provide coverage during peak windows and participate in the on-call rotation for production releases and monitoring escalations.
