Job summary

Merck is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director to serve as a therapeutic and disease expert, engaging in bidirectional scientific information exchange with Scientific Leaders. The role supports Scientific Exchange, Research, Scientific Congress Support, and Scientific Insights while aligning with company policies and GMSA strategies.

The candidate will lead discussions with external stakeholders, oversee protocol leadership with GCTO, and travel up to 50% within the US territory.

Qualifications

• PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond the terminal degree program.
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with external stakeholders.
• Commitment to scientific excellence and education and dialogue.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills.

Responsibilities

• Develops professional relationships with national and regional SLs to provide access to approved medical and scientific information.
• Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains a medical contact within the company.
• Directs SL inquiries on issues outside the scope to appropriate resources.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the dynamic scientific and clinical environment in AOI.
• Initiates discussions with SLs and investigators to align with research strategies and study concepts.
• Enhances understanding of the goals of investigator-sponsored research.
• Identifies barriers to patient enrollment and retention for milestones.
• Recommends study sites and investigators for phase II–IV trials; conducts SIVs.
• Leads protocol development in collaboration with GCTO.
• Addresses questions from investigators about participation in Company-sponsored studies.
• Engages in scientific congresses and medical meetings to facilitate data exchange.
• Gathers feedback and information to understand scientific needs and priorities of SLs and patients.
