Job summary

Rocky Mountain Institute seeks a Development Lead for Prospect Research and New Business Development to advance our fundraising efforts through disciplined research, data quality, and pipeline management.

You will lead cross-functional teams, incorporate Apra standards, and use Salesforce and related tools to surface actionable prospects while ensuring privacy and ethical guidelines. This role supports unrestricted and general operating revenue growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 5 years of dedicated experience in prospect research or related nonprofit roles.
• Familiarity with Apra standards and ethical research practices.
• Experience identifying and qualifying prospects across fundraising verticals.
• Proficiency with research tools including Salesforce and donor databases.
• Strong data fluency and ability to translate data into actionable insights.

Responsibilities

• Lead and evolve prospect research and development across revenue portfolio.
• Identify, evaluate, and recommend prospects with capacity and fit.
• Apply Apra-informed practices, maintain privacy-conscious documentation.
• Own cross-vertical new business development workstreams with clear next steps.
• Manage pipelines, track progress, and partner with program teams.
• Translate data into recommendations for leadership to prioritize outreach.
