Job summary
Placements24 is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to support underground mining operations near Welkom. You will assess ground stability, conduct site investigations, analyze data, and recommend ground support and excavation designs.
With at least 5 years in geotechnical engineering, you will use Rocscience and FLAC tools to evaluate rock/soil mechanics, monitor stability, and deliver detailed reports to stakeholders.
Qualifications
- BSc or BEng in Civil or Mining Engineering with Geotechnical specialization.
- Minimum 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience, preferably in mining.
- Proficient in Rocscience suite and FLAC for analyses.
- Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geology.
- Experience with remote sensing and monitoring for ground stability.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Conduct geotechnical investigations including drilling, logging, and lab testing.
- Perform stability analyses for underground excavations, open pits, and tailings.
- Develop ground support designs and monitoring plans.
- Provide technical guidance on geotechnical aspects of mine design.
- Monitor ground conditions and assess geological hazards.
- Prepare detailed geotechnical reports for project stakeholders.
