Placements24 is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to support underground mining operations near Welkom. You will assess ground stability, conduct site investigations, analyze data, and recommend ground support and excavation designs.

With at least 5 years in geotechnical engineering, you will use Rocscience and FLAC tools to evaluate rock/soil mechanics, monitor stability, and deliver detailed reports to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Civil or Mining Engineering with Geotechnical specialization.
• Minimum 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience, preferably in mining.
• Proficient in Rocscience suite and FLAC for analyses.
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geology.
• Experience with remote sensing and monitoring for ground stability.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and analytical Geotechnical Engineer to provide critical support to their underground mining operations near Welkom . This role involves assessing and managing ground stability risks to ensure the safety of personnel and the integrity of mine infrastructure. You will conduct site investigations, analyze geotechnical data, and develop recommendations for ground support systems and excavation designs. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations, including drilling, logging, and laboratory testing of rock and soil samples.
• Perform stability analyses for underground excavations, open pits, and tailings dams using specialized software.
• Develop and implement ground support designs and monitoring plans for mining areas.
• Provide technical guidance on geotechnical aspects of mine design and operational planning.
• Monitor ground conditions and assess the risk of geological hazards such as rockbursts and instabilities.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports and recommendations for project stakeholders.

Requirements

• BSc or BEng in Civil or Mining Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
