Job summary

Jobgether is seeking an R&D Global Director based in the United States to lead a globally distributed software development organization and drive engineering excellence for enterprise solutions. You will guide strategic technical direction, oversee modernization programs, and align delivery with customer commitments across QA, DevOps, IT, and professional services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years in professional Java software development with substantial leadership experience.
• Proven success delivering complex software in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Experience with geographically distributed engineering organizations across multiple time zones.
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring, REST APIs, and enterprise app development.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of relational/NoSQL databases and ORM (Hibernate/JPA).
• Experience with Agile/Scrum, Jira, Confluence, Git; CI/CD and DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead a global Java software development organization with strategic direction and accountability.
• Oversee design, modernization, and delivery of enterprise software aligned with roadmaps.
• Establish engineering strategies balancing immediate delivery with platform modernization.
• Guide architecture decisions across Java-based applications and modernization opportunities.
• Improve productivity, quality, build stability, release reliability, and delivery predictability.
• Manage multiple initiatives across time zones with resource planning and risk management.
• Strengthen software engineering practices, Agile methodologies, and CMMI Level 2+ compliance.
• Define and monitor engineering KPIs; drive data-driven decisions and debt reduction.
• Lead organizational transformation and adoption of modern technologies and workflows.
• Foster collaboration across R&D, Professional Services, QA, DevOps, IT, and other functions.
• Coach and develop engineering managers; build a high-performing global organization.
• Communicate strategies and progress to senior leadership in business terms.
• Promote technical excellence, ownership, continuous learning, and cross-geography collaboration.
• Ensure reliability, security, performance, and compliance for public-sector enterprise solutions.
