Job summary

Alignerr is seeking PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test AI models, exposing reasoning failures and training them to think like a physicist. This fully remote hourly contract offers 10–40 hours per week, focusing on physics problems across quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, and thermodynamics.

You will design problems, write solutions, and audit AI reasoning to ensure consistency with physical laws and first principles.

Qualifications

• PhD (completed or near-completion) in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or related field.
• Strong mastery of core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics.
• Write with exceptional clarity—explain complex phenomena and derivations in precise English.
• Self-directed and comfortable working independently on technical tasks.
• No prior AI or data annotation experience required.

Responsibilities

• Design advanced physics problems—Craft complex, open-ended problems at PhD exam level, with multi-step reasoning and derivation.
• Author gold-standard solutions—Provide definitive, step-by-step solutions with physical constants and unit conversions.
• Audit AI reasoning—Evaluate AI simulations, derivations and proofs for physical consistency, identify hallucinations.
• Refine model behaviour—Give structured feedback to develop physics-informed reasoning, including boundary conditions and conservation laws.
