Job summary

Cala Health, Inc. is seeking a Software Test Engineer to strengthen our QA team. You will validate mobile apps, web platforms and APIs, performing manual, exploratory testing and contributing to automation alongside full‑stack developers.

You’ll design tests from requirements, ensure traceability to acceptance criteria, and help drive release readiness in a regulated healthcare setting. This remote/hybrid role aligns with our San Mateo presence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 1–3 years of hands-on software testing experience spanning both manual testing and automation.
• Demonstrated manual testing competency: writing structured test cases and capturing reproduction details.
• Experience testing REST APIs using tools such as Postman.
• Practical use of AI tools in day‑to‑day engineering work with good judgment on verification.
• Comfort with mobile platform tooling including iOS and Android devices and emulators.
• Working knowledge of version control and running tests within CI/CD pipelines.
• Clear written communication in defect reports and test documentation.

Responsibilities

• Manual and Exploratory Testing across mobile and web apps and APIs.
• Design, build, and maintain automated test scripts for mobile and web apps.
• API Testing: validate REST API behavior, contracts, status codes, auth, errors.
• Write test cases from requirements and maintain traceability to criteria.
• Use AI tools to generate tests, refine automation scripts, and triage failures.
• Log and track defects with clear reproduction steps and logs.
• Support release readiness with regression testing and risk reporting.
• Collaborate with Quality, Engineering and Product to clarify expected behavior.
