Job description

The Climate Emergency Collaboration Group (CECG) is a regranting collaboration made up of some of the world’s largest climate philanthropic funders. We use our convening and philanthropic power to facilitate stronger collaboration, coordination, and campaigning from the global climate movement in pursuit of increased climate action around the UN climate talks and other international summits. CECG is fiscally sponsored by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA), a 501(c)(3), as a Sponsored Project within its charitable-giving fund.

About the role:

This is a fast-paced and dynamic role at the intersection of grant making, campaigning strategy, and advocacy to support global climate diplomacy around ambition raising (the next round of nationally determined contributions- NDCs), tightening the accountability of multilateral climate commitments and Non-State Actor pledges. The role will focus on managing CECG’s grant making in its accountability portfolio, as well as supporting the Program Director with the development of new strategies and convening opportunities that will shape and leverage our grant making and knowledge management in this area. The role will work closely with other members of the CECG Team, including the broader Programs Team which works on Climate impacts, the Energy Transition, Food and Nature, and International Financial Reform, all through a multilateral lens.

Who we are looking for:

CECG is looking for a strong program manager, with significant policy understanding of, and active networking in the multilateral climate ecosystem. Knowledge of campaigning and advocacy, as well as evidence of possessing a strategic mindset, are highly desirable. The candidate will be an organized ‘self-starter’ who enjoys problem solving and working in a close team. They will thrive in complexity and have high self-awareness, with excellent stakeholder engagement skills. They will possess a strong coalition-driven and co-production research mindset. They will be able to juggle different tasks at pace whilst maintaining a keen eye for detail. They will be comfortable in a virtual workspace and be flexible about working hours from week to week.

Role responsibilities:

Grant Making:

  1. Research and scope potential grantees for the implementation portfolio.
  2. Assess proposals for alignment with strategies and make recommendations on programming and budgets.
  3. Conduct strategic due diligence and gather intelligence to strengthen proposals.
  4. Collaborate with grantees on proposal development, ensuring robust KPIs.
  5. Finalize and process grant agreements, due diligence, and payments with grantees and the operations team.
  6. Track grant progress, ensure compliance, and review grantee reports.
  7. Work with Program Managers and the Operations Team to maintain accurate grant pipeline and portfolio tracking.
  8. Maintain grants-related systems and identify and develop strategies to optimize the grant making process.

Program Development, Research & Analysis:

  1. Monitor and analyze and keep updated on ambition raising and accountability frameworks and initiatives within multilateral processes.
  2. Identify opportunities for philanthropic engagement.
  3. Build knowledge resources, maintain strategic information resources for high-quality intelligence and data.
  4. Collate and analyze complex technical material to make strategic recommendations.
  5. Develop strategic materials such as theory of change diagrams and program synthesis documents.

Reporting:

  1. Assist the Program Director with donor engagement and develop key knowledge management documents.
  2. Prepare grant recommendation and approval documents for the Board.
  3. Update the Program Director on grant making progress, opportunities, risks, and strategic insights.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  1. Maintain strong relationships with grantees, create working groups, and solve challenges collaboratively.
  2. Coordinate opportunities for network convening to build cohesive coalitions.
  3. Plan and coordinate events and workshops to enhance stakeholder connectivity.
  4. Attend regular meetings with strategic partners and participate in key networks.

Requirements:

  1. Either:
  • A relevant Master’s degree (e.g. Climate, Environment, Economics, International Policy, Political Sciences, Environmental Politics and Management), with a minimum of 5 years in a progressively responsible research, fundraising, and/or advocacy role in a climate-focused organization;
  • Or a relevant Undergraduate degree (e.g. climate, international development, international policy, environmental politics, geography), and a minimum of 7 years in a progressively responsible climate-focused organization.
  • Proven project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A strong understanding of the UNFCCC processes and accountability frameworks.
  • Demonstrable experience in networking and stakeholder coordination, ideally at the multilateral level.
  • Highly resourceful and a keen problem-solver who is eager to take on new challenges.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to organize and coordinate multiple work streams.
  • Demonstrable experience writing compelling reports and/or funding applications.
  • Experience in a campaigning, advocacy, strategic communications role.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English is essential; other languages are an asset.
  • IT proficiency (most specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Desirable:

    1. Experience in philanthropy and grant management.
    2. Experience in working virtually across different time zones.
    3. Experience in working in diverse teams and with people from various cultural backgrounds.

    Additional Information:

    The location for this role is flexible, we are a global organization and the role will be remote, home-based with some international travel.

    The salary will be $70,000 – $110,000 (depending on experience) plus an excellent benefits package.

    The contract Type: Fixed term 9 – 12 months (maternity cover).

    Working Hours: Full time.

    Start Date: November 2024.
