Job summary

AMG & Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Processing Archivist for a full-time contract to support the organization, arrangement, description, preservation, and accessibility of archival collections and historical records.

You will work with archivists, librarians, researchers, and records management professionals to ensure materials are processed, preserved, and accessible in accordance with standards and policies. Remote or hybrid options may be available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in History, Archival Studies, Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
• 3+ years of professional archival processing or archives experience.
• Strong understanding of archival arrangement, description, preservation, and collection management.
• Experience developing finding aids, inventories, catalogs, or metadata.
• Familiarity with archival standards and digitization workflows.

Responsibilities

• Assess, organize, arrange, and describe archival collections and records.
• Process materials from accessioning through final storage.
• Develop and maintain finding aids, inventories, and descriptive metadata.
• Apply archival standards to ensure consistent documentation.
• Evaluate preservation needs and storage conditions.
• Maintain records of contents, access restrictions, and actions.
• Support digitization by preparing materials and verifying metadata.
• Maintain databases and collection management systems.
• Identify restricted materials and escalate when needed.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to support access and research needs.
• Assist with acquisition, accessioning, transfer, and management of new collections.
• Ensure handling and processing follow policies and preservation guidelines.
• Review and update descriptions, inventories, and documentation.
• Support research requests by locating materials for access.
• Maintain confidentiality for restricted records.
• Assist with audits, preservation projects, and records management.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflows and metadata quality.
• Ensure projects and documentation are completed on time.
