Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Remote Pro Fee Medical Coder to review clinical docs and assign accurate codes for inpatient and outpatient encounters. The role requires 2+ years in physician‑fee coding and an active AAPC or AHIMA certification. Epic experience is a plus.

This contract position is remote with a likely base pay of $25.00–$30.00 per hour, dependent on qualifications, location, and internal equity. Benefits vary by classification and length of employment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in inpatient and outpatient physician-fee medical coding.
• Encounter types include Inpatient, Long Term Care, Observation, Emergency, Same Day Surgery, Clinic Visits, Ancillary services.
• Experience with a wide range of specialties including cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, ENT, endocrinology, and more.
• Active AAPC or AHIMA coding certification is required.
• Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Epic experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret clinical documentation to assign accurate diagnosis, procedure, and E/M codes.
• Apply ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS Level II, and modifiers per coding guidelines.
• Code physician services for inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary encounters.
• Ensure compliance with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, and payer requirements.
• Identify documentation deficiencies and request clarification as needed.
• Meet turnaround times, productivity, and quality standards while managing workload remotely.
• Participate in coding audits, quality reviews, and process improvement initiatives.
• Stay current on coding updates and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with leadership, auditors, and client representatives to resolve issues.
• Support revenue cycle optimization through accurate coding practices.
