Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to shape and scale the engineering platforms that build, test, integrate, validate, and deliver embedded software for software-defined vehicles.

This role is a hands-on technical leader who turns ambiguous problems into durable architectures, practical standards, and measurable improvements in engineering effectiveness, release confidence, and product quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in software engineering or related field.
• 12+ years of software development experience with real-time systems.
• Experience shipping safety-critical products and software.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with Kubernetes cluster operations and Terraform IaC.
• Familiarity with embedded or simulation workflows (vECUs, SIL, FMU, SSP).
• Cloud architecture experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Responsibilities

• Lead software engineering productivity and effectiveness initiatives.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and drive change.
• Be hands-on leading high-impact efforts across teams.
• Mentor and coach engineers; communicate effectively.
• Analyze difficult problems and deliver durable architectures.
• Connect multiple initiatives to deliver higher value.
• Define CI/CD, branching, and quality gates across domains.
• Design GitOps-based delivery for multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.
• Lead progressive delivery with automated rollback and analysis.
• Establish IaC architecture using Terraform modules and multi-environment patterns.
• Incorporate security and compliance into pipelines and artifact flows.
• Define observability standards for pipelines and workloads.
• Mentor DevOps and simulation developers across the organization.
