Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineer - Network to join our Network Infrastructure SRE team in Cambridge, MA. You will architect and build scalable network solutions, mentor peers, and drive high-availability across Akamai Connected Cloud.

You'll collaborate with software, operations and compute stakeholders, define SLOs, automate with Bash, Python and Go, and participate in on-call rotations to keep the global platform running at peak performance.

Qualifications

• 12 years of relevant site reliability, network or DevOps experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, load balancing and firewall concepts.
• Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, SaltStack, Chef, Puppet).
• Experience with Linux networking userspace and FRR/BIRD/goBGP.
• Experience developing applications and contributing to codebases.
• Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build and support reliable network infrastructure solutions.
• Serve as SME and mentor to team members.
• Collaborate on deployment standards and documentation.
• Build and design automation tools (Bash scripts, Python, Slack bots).
• Define SLOs for Akamai Connected Cloud network infrastructure.
• Investigate and troubleshoot complex network issues, including on-call rotations.
