Job summary

Sedgwick is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to lead advanced analytics initiatives across claims and risk management. You will design and deploy predictive models, guide data-science teams, and collaborate with engineering to productionize solutions.

You will work with large, enterprise datasets, apply NLP and deep learning, and establish best practices for experimentation, validation, and governance. Mentorship and clear communication to stakeholders are essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in a quantitative discipline.
• 8–12+ years of experience in data science or analytics.
• Deep expertise in machine learning algorithms and predictive analytics.
• Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages.
• Extensive experience with large, complex datasets in enterprise environments.
• Proven experience designing and implementing end-to-end modeling pipelines.
• Strong understanding of model validation and feature engineering.
• Experience deploying models into production systems.
• Industry experience in insurance, claims analytics preferred.
• Ability to communicate complex analytic concepts to stakeholders and lead teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of advanced statistical and machine learning models.
• Serve as the technical authority for complex modeling initiatives.
• Develop predictive models using structured and unstructured data.
• Architect modeling approaches with modern techniques (GBM, DL, NLP).
• Partner with AI Engineering to productionize models.
• Design feature engineering strategies and pipelines for large datasets.
• Establish best practices for model development and validation.
• Lead mentoring of junior data scientists and analysts.
• Translate analytical findings into actionable business insights.
• Collaborate with Claims, Finance, Risk, and IT to identify opportunities.
