Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Cloud Computing Engineer Principal to lead Azure infrastructure, security and cloud modernization for VA environments. This remote role requires strong expertise in Azure services, security, and CI/CD automation.

The candidate will mentor engineers and ensure compliant, scalable cloud solutions. Responsibilities include designing high-availability cloud architectures, implementing IaC, and coordinating across cross-functional teams to deliver VA cloud

Qualifications

• Proven track record designing, deploying, and managing Azure infrastructure and services.
• Experience with large-scale, highly available cloud architecture.
• Deep Azure services knowledge: VMs, Blob Storage, SQL, VNet, Functions, Entra ID, ARM, Monitor, DNS.
• Experience with Azure security including RBAC, DDoS Protection and WAF.
• Networking expertise: VNet Peering, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway, Private Endpoints, Load Balancer.
• Ability to govern multi-subscription Azure environments with Management Groups, Azure Policy, Landing Zones.
• Familiar with FinOps, budgeting, tagging, and cost optimization in Azure.
• Scripting in Python/PowerShell/Bash/NodeJS for automation.
• IaC with ARM templates, Ansible, GitOps.
• Monitoring/logging with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, App Insights; supplementary tools.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, FedRAMP, NIST, GDPR, PCI DSS compliance.
• Encryption, key management, secrets management in Azure Key Vault and Entra ID.
• Azure database services: SQL, SQL MI, Cosmos, PostgreSQL, MySQL.
• CI/CD tooling incl. Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI.
• Containerization: Docker, AKS, Container Apps, Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Create data flow, cloud and transition diagrams for cloud infra, apps and systems.
• Develop and operate CI/CD automation technologies.
• Manage permissions in cloud services for each app, storage and service.
• Design and monitor cloud architecture to ensure performance and compliance.
• Provide VA Enterprise Cloud provisioning and support.
• Ensure VAEC Azure GovCloud compliance and VIP documentation.
• Adopt DevOps mindset with CI/CD tooling and practices.
• Develop cloud security provider documentation.
• Design VAEC/cloud solutions and address readiness gaps.
