Job summary

Bitovi is seeking a PostgreSQL Database Consultant to help enterprise clients run critical data platforms with deep self‑managed PostgreSQL expertise. You’ll diagnose, stabilize, and tune large environments, turning under‑the‑hood insights into actionable changes.

This is a fully remote, full‑time role based in the United States, with travel for on‑site engagements as needed. You’ll work on vacuum and autovacuum tuning, replication and high availability, backups, monitoring, and performance

Qualifications

• Deep production PostgreSQL experience on self-managed on-prem infrastructure.
• Expert vacuum and autovacuum tuning thresholds and cost limits.
• Strong indexing and production-safe rebuilds.
• Mastery of PostgreSQL configuration and auditing.
• Query performance analysis with EXPLAIN/ANALYZE.
• Experience with replication, HA, failover testing.
• Backup/restore with pgBackRest or Barman.
• Connection pooling with PgBouncer/Pgpool-II.
• Monitoring with Prometheus, Datadog, or similar.
• Linux administration related to database hosts.
• Incident response with postmortems.

Responsibilities

• Stabilize critical systems by auditing configuration, maintenance, and indexing.
• Tune vacuum strategy, indexing, queries, and settings for production load.
• Put monitoring, alerting, and runbooks in place to prevent outages.
• Consult with clients to build outcome‑driven platforms and guide remediation.
• Travel as needed; travel three to five days per quarter on average.
• Teach and share knowledge through talks, trainings, and content.
