Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Specialist to join a distributed Plant Science research team, working fully remotely. You will analyze complex plant genomic and transcriptomic data, develop computational tools for gene identification and variant analysis, and collaborate with breeders and scientists across sites to advance crop productivity and sustainability.

Qualifications

PhD or equivalent in a quantitative bioinformatics or plant science field.
Strong programming skills in Python, R, or Perl and experience with bioinformatics libraries.
Proficiency with Linux/Unix command line and common bioinformatics tools.
Solid understanding of plant genetics, genomics, and molecular biology.
Ability to analyze complex data and present findings clearly.
Excellent remote collaboration and communication in distributed teams.

Responsibilities

Analyze large-scale plant genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic datasets using pipelines.
Develop and optimize tools and algorithms for gene identification and variant analysis.
Interpret data to identify markers and support breeding programs.
Collaborate with plant breeders and scientists across sites.
Prepare data visualizations, reports, and manuscripts for publication.
Manage and secure access to large biological datasets in a remote environment.
