Job summary

Actalent is seeking a 100% remote Pharmacy Technician to join our priority authorization review team. This contract-to-hire role focuses on reviewing prior authorizations for a wide range of plans in a large health insurance PBM environment.

You'll evaluate criteria, document decisions, and interact with prescribers and providers as needed. The position requires PA experience, strong computer skills, and the ability to work in a remote setting with a call-center style workflow.

Qualifications

• Must have current registration as a pharmacy technician in the state of residence.
• National pharmacy technician certification (PTCB or NHA).
• Active Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).
• Pharmacy technician license/registration as required by state of operation.
• Experience as a pharmacy technician in retail, hospital, PBM, call center, or specialty pharmacy.
• Proficient in prior authorization processes and prescription benefits review.
• Strong computer skills with multiple screens/systems.
• MS Office (Outlook) proficiency.
• Ability to work remotely with reliable high-speed Wi‑Fi.

Responsibilities

• Review prior authorization requests for coverage determination across multiple health plans.
• Evaluate requests against criteria and approve/deny before pharmacist review.
• Enter coverage decisions into PBM and internal systems.
• Track requests from receipt to final decision and documentation.
• Obtain verbal authorizations and request needed clinical information.
• Notify providers/members of coverage decisions clearly and timely.
• Respond to client/provider inquiries about prescription benefits and determinations.
• Refer complex cases to pharmacists or internal teams.
• Contact providers for additional information to complete reviews.
• Assist with inbound/outbound calls as needed, focusing on outbound.
• Handle Medicare/Medicaid prescription benefit inquiries per guidelines.
• Use multiple systems to review requests and document decisions.
