Job summary

RI International seeks a Peer Support Specialist I to provide peer support and recovery training for individuals receiving services. You will assist in creating a recovery environment and advocate for each person’s needs in alignment with RI policies.

The role requires certification, high school diploma, and lived experience with mental health or substance use services. Work is on-site in Durham, with a $18/hour wage and a full-time, non-exempt schedule.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of Peer Employment Training and certification as a Peer Support Specialist is required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use services explains applicant background.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to teach recovery information and recovery tools.
• Effective communication skills are essential.
• Must pass de-escalation training per state requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer support to engage individuals in a recovery partnership and help identify goals and solutions.
• Teach recovery and life skills using recovery tools.
• Model hope, responsibility and self-advocacy.
• Develop natural supports and community living for participants.
• Coordinate with clinical teams to arrange services or resources for client goals.
• Complete clinical documentation as required.
• Maintain compliance with policies and regulations.
