Job summary

The Public Library of Science invites applications for a Peer Review Operations Specialist. This fully remote, two-year FTC position supports global journal workflows and vendor performance, serving authors, editors, and reviewers.

Reporting to the Peer Review Operations Manager, you will drive turnaround benchmarks, identify workflow improvements, and collaborate across international teams to uphold open science standards and timely publication.

Qualifications

• Experience in peer-reviewed scholarly publishing.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Collaborative with international teams and vendors.
• Ability to manage deadlines and maintain quality in fast-paced environments.
• Experience with manuscript workflows and policy implementation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Submission Management: ensure timely, efficient peer review of submissions.
• Address queries from vendors and colleagues within timelines.
• Identify barriers to submission and reduce backlogs across PLOS.
• Proactively identify workflow inefficiencies and propose improvements.
• Ensure manuscripts meet current policies and procedures.
