Job summary

Mercury Bank is seeking a Payment Operations Lead to build and scale the operational desks that support Mercury Bank’s payment rails. You will bring deep payments knowledge, strong team leadership, and a systems-minded approach to improve efficiency through process design, tooling, automation, and AI.

You’ll lead a team responsible for international wires, domestic wires, RTP, ACH, and checks, building the operating rhythms, controls, and tools needed to scale while preserving quality.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years in payments or banking operations.
• Deep knowledge of payment rails (international wires, domestic wires, RTP, ACH, and checks).
• Experience leading an operations team with clear expectations and coaching.
• Interest in scalable operations via process improvement, tooling, automation, and AI.
• Ability to operate in a regulated environment balancing speed, risk, and customer experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Ownership mindset to improve fragile or manual systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop Payment Operations team with clear priorities and high operating standards.
• Scale payment desks across rails, documenting workflows, controls, and quality standards.
• Navigate exceptions, investigations, returns, recalls, and partner requirements in a regulated environment.
• Improve efficiency through better processes, tooling, automation, AI-enabled workflows, and dashboards.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Risk, and Banking Partnerships to smooth bottlenecks.
• Define and track metrics for productivity, quality, SLA adherence, and impact.
• Create a culture of ownership, urgency, and high quality.
