Job summary

UW Medicine is seeking an Outpatient Coding Education Analyst within the Enterprise Records and Health Information (ERHI) team. The role focuses on auditing, education, and training across coding guidelines (ICD, DRG, CPT, HCPCS) and supports external and internal audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Health Sciences discipline, Business Administration or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience
• Minimum of 3 years increasingly responsible related experience, including coding auditing, analysis and education and training.
• Experience performing root cause analysis (RCA) and resolving coding claim denials is desirable.
• 2 years of coding edit resolution experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an organization resource and content expert for current documentation and coding guidelines
• Perform coding audits, analyze results and create audit reports and provide education and training on the results of internal audits and partner with Compliance on external audit education
• Review DRG and CPT claim denials for commercial payers and maintain written documentation of actions, activities or assessments in accordance with state and federal law, and institutional policies
• Retains records in accordance with UW Medicine Records Retention Schedule and department policy
• Evaluate billing/coding/documentation behavior and identify recommendations for improvement
• Review, analyse and determine effectiveness of training, assess effectiveness against entity/workforce member type/and industry KPI’s and recommend enhancements to training content and user experience
• Maintain written documentation of actions, activities or assessments in accordance with state and federal law, and institutional policies
• Develop and deliver role-specific training for ERHI Coding staff, develop and implement effective monitoring, auditing and risk assessment activities
• Manage or conduct audits, and ensure they are performed in accordance with the UW Medicine Audit Policy
