Job summary

Qualifications

• High School diploma or Associate Degree in accredited HIM program.
• Certificate in coding from an accredited college.
• CCS certification is essential; RHIT/RHIA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assigns and sequences diagnostic and procedural codes using official guidelines.
• Abstracts coded data and ensures correct surgeon, anesthesiologist, and procedure dates in the record.
• Maintains productivity and coding quality for outpatient services per established minimums.
• Keeps up with Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, CMS and payer guideline changes.
• Prioritizes coding tasks as directed to meet time frames.
• Collaborates with Discharge Not Final Billed (DNFB) clerks to prioritize workload.
• Reviews outpatient work queues daily to address coding reviews and edits.
